The New York Times-acclaimed writer and the director is now a designer. JD Lawrence’s new shoe collection consists of designer men's and women's shoes and sneakers. JD Lawrence is an American comedian, writer, director, and producer of films, television, and stage plays. JD Lawrence, also known as "The King of Dramedy,” has mastered the art of improvisation infused with drama, comedy, and music. In 2018, JD Lawrence in his one-man show, SKITZophrenia played 63 characters, beating the Guinness World Record holder of 53 characters since 2001. The multi-hyphenate has been dubbed "The Man of Many Faces" by EBONY Magazine. The New York Times says, “Onstage Lawrence is a prodigious theatrical talent" and the Washington Post calls him “A real quick change artist.” Lawrence made history as the first playwright to executive produce and create a docuseries for Bravo television about the mounting of a theatrical show. It was also the first time in history a puppet (Ms. Mary) played by Lawrence was featured on a prime-time reality show.

Lawrence has repeatedly produced and performed to sold-out audiences across the country and is the first urban playwright to produce and star in his own production at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood and New York’s world famous BB Kings on 42nd street in Time Square. The NAACP Legacy Award Recipient is also the first African American to create, executive produce and portray over ten characters in two simultaneous productions on television: JD Lawrence's Community Service on GMC and JD Lawrence's The Clean Up Woman on BET. JD Lawrence is not only a prolific playwright, he is also an equally talented singer, songwriter and producer. Lawrence was the first playwright to be honored by the Network Journal's (in association with Time Warner) Top 40 Under Forty African American Entrepreneurs list

 

The Grammy and Emmy Award winners’ director has worked with the likes of Ashford & Simpson, Jackee Harry, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Fred Hammond, Ginuwine, Cupid, El DeBarge, Letoya Luckett, George Faison, Stephanie Mills, Clifton Powell, Drew Sidora, Dave Hollister, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Darius McCrary, Telma Hopkins, Natalie Wilson, Eva Pigford, Alyson Williams, Latrice Pace, Robin S., Tony Terry, the late Ali Woodson, Ronald Winans, Edwin Hawkins and Willie Neal Johnson, just to name a few. The two-time Telly Award winner is also a two-time "Keep America Beautiful" National Award-winning writer and director. His unique talents have earned him two public performing arts Special Recognition Awards from New York, a Legislature Distinguished Achievement Award from the city of Chicago, and a Certificate of Special Recognition from Congress.

Lawrence has received the key to the city in Lafayette, Louisiana and was given his own day (JD Lawrence Day, February 20th) by Mayor John C. Tkazyik in Poughkeepsie, New York. The phrase “there’s a new sheriff in town” would best describe Lawrence in many ways. Lawrence was sworn in by Sheriff Benny Napoleon of Wayne County, Michigan as an honorary sheriff. JD Lawrence has given back to his own community selflessly, adopting a highway and creating the first theatrical health fair in his hometown. While on tour, he lectures at universities and grade schools to inspire youth to pursue the arts. As his success continues to skyrocket, JD Lawrence has remained true to himself and steadfast in his faith. Lawrence is humble and grateful to share his knowledge and gift of laughter with the world. JD Lawrence is a star in every aspect and his light will only shine brighter in the years to come.
